University of Jos permanent site Library was badly destroyed in a fire incident that occurred on Saturday night. The cause of fire is not clear to anyone yet. Following the incident, the university authorities has postponed ongoing first semester examinations. The faculties of Social Sciences and Management Sciences, located at the library were also razed down.
Registrar of the institution, Mr Monday Danjem, in a statement issued on Sunday said that the decision was taken pending an emergency Senate meeting scheduled for Monday, Oct. 10. He urged students and members of the university community to remain calm and go about their normal businesses as the situation has been brought under control.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sebastine Maimako, who briefed newsmen after inspecting the damage disclosed that the fire destroyed examination scripts, books and crucial materials. "On the fourth floor, which was completely razed down, we have the departments of Psychology, Political Science, Economics and Office of Dean of Management sciences"
The Director of Fire Service in Plateau, Mr Samuel Musa, said that it took six hours to put out the fire. See another photo after the cut.
