Ahmed Musa Must Take His Chance In The Champions League To Prove His Worth
The Nigerian born player must take his chances in tonight's Champions League game to repay his transfer fee as the Premier League Champions make their UCL bow
For the soft-spoken and unassuming Ahmed Musa, Leicester City’s expensive £30 million outlay for Algeria international Islam Slimani must have sounded like the rumble of rain in a desert. In much the same way he seemed ill-suited to the responsibility of being national team captain, the burden of a record transfer fee hung ever so uncomfortably.
That dispensed with, the former Kano Pillars forward can now concentrate on finding his feet in the East Midlands. The downside is that there is now heightened competition for places within the starting XI; whereas he once had Shinji Okazaki alone blocking the path, Slimani’s sizeable frame adds another variable.
Musa’s biggest selling point though is that he offers something entirely different to the other two, and is a lot more versatile positionally. Okazaki was one of the understated heroes of last season’s title win, oscillating tirelessly between the forward line and the midfield and showing great tenacity, while Slimani is a delightful battering ram of a centre forward, powerful in the air and a consummate finisher.
