University Of Ibadan Shut Down Over Staff Protest

Non Academic Staff Union (NASU), of the institution went on strike as they demand the full payment of salaries and arrears from January 2016 to date.

The union had ordered their members to go home last week Friday, Jul 29, after holding a joint congress at the University entrance gate forcing people to trek distance to their destinations.

" I am pleased to  inform the university community that we have fund to pay salary shortfalls from January to April 2016 the fund came in on 30th July 2016. The VC has directed promp payment of these shortfalls".

Despite this message, the workers held on to the keys to major offices, refusing to open offices and lecture hall for academics activities.

On Monday, the Joint Action Congress of Senior Staff of Nigeria Universities (SSANU), Non- Academic Staff Union(NASU) and NAAT, stormed the entrance gate for a joint congress and put the entrance gate under lock and key.

The unions said they were force to take the latest action owing to the failure of the University administration to yield  to the demand of commencing full payment of salaries by July ending and arrears of shortfalls from December 2015 to June 2016.

The union are also demanding for N15,000 and N30,000 hazard allowances for junior and senior staff respectively.
